Wind power wins ground

During 2008, installed capacity increased by 20 per cent to 121 GW.

A desire to move from fossil to renewable energy sources has contributed to this development, especially during the past few years. Wind power is an attractive energy source from both an environmental and an economic perspective – and particularly from a life cycle perspective.

Strong support for wind power expansion

In Sweden, the growth rate has long been slow, but the rate of expansion has greatly increased during the past few years – a result of developing political support systems.

Today, there is broad, long-range political support for wind power expansion in Sweden. Swedish wind power production increased in 2008 from 1.4 TWh to 2.0 TWh, equivalent to 1.4 per cent of the country’s consumption. A continued high growth rate is expected in the coming years. Arise Windpower’s vision is to be one of Sweden’s leading land-based wind power companies in terms of both size and competence.

Forest environments

One of the greatest advantages of building wind power in forest environments is that these areas are sparsely populated and the authorisation process is thus simplified.
